The St. Bonaventure women’s soccer team opened up Atlantic 10 Conference play last night as they fell to the Saint Louis Billikens 5-0.

Billikens sophomore forward Emma Farley scored the opening goal for Saint Louis in the seventh minute.

After that goal, Saint Louis did not look back.

Five minutes later, junior forward Maddie Pokorny scored on a corner kick. Another corner kick was successful for the Billikens in the 17th minute which made the score 3-0 in favor of St. Louis. In the 44th minute, the home team tallied another goal before halftime to increase their lead. Right after half, the Billikens scored again to make in 5-0.

The Bonnies played hard throughout the first half by drawing fouls and creating shot opportunities, but they could not find the back of the net.

Leading the offense was sophomore midfielder Sabrina Souza-Sampson with two shots on goal.

Bonnies sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Malcolm made six saves.

Junior midfielder Gretta LaCouture and the sophomore forward duo of Bella May and Sydney Cerza placed all three of the shots on goal made by the Bonnies.

Freshman Serafina Maerten came in to relieve Malcolm in the 72nd minute and saw her most time in net by playing 17:30 minutes. Maerten made one save and did not allow a goal while she was in the game.

The Bonnies look to bounce back and even their record in division play as they host the Richmond Spiders on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
