Clubs join together to host Halloween event

Children involved in Bona Buddies will once again get to celebrate Halloween Saturday afternoon at Bonaventure.
The event, hosted by both Bona Buddies and ENACTUS, is in its sixth year. In years past, the haunted house and Halloween party were hosted in Francis Hall; however, this year it will be hosted in the Rathskeller.
Abbie Koetting, a senior education major and coordinator of operations for Bona Buddies, said the event has been successful in the past.
“This is a free program for them to attend, and they all get to interact with children from the other days,” Koetting explained. “They absolutely love seeing their buddies in costume, and are so entertained by everything we have planned for them.”
The children will get to participate in events like toilet paper mummy wrapping, pumpkin tosses and a Halloween-themed bowling game.
“We decorated water bottles filled with glitter and water and put witch hats on top with eyeballs,” Koetting said, explaining that water bottles are the bowling pins.
The students will also get to go through a haunted house, go trick-or-treating through freshman dorms, play games and eat pizza.
Grace Garlick, a senior marketing major and president of ENACTUS, said the event is great both for the children and for Bona students.
“We look forward to this event every year because typically we only work with adults for our events. We love getting to work with kids; it adds a whole new perspective.”
Koetting added that Bona Buddies looks forward to partnering up with ENACTUS each year.
New this year to the Saturday festivities is a Bona-student-only Halloween event later in the evening.
The party will take place from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Rathskeller.
“We always have so many extra decorations from Bona Buddies that we thought we might as well have a second event,” Garlick explained. “ENACTUS students have been working really hard on it.”
The party will include snacks, decorations, drink specials and a DJ.
“We’ll also be giving out prizes for students,” Garlick noted.
All proceeds from the event will benefit hurricane relief efforts.
Glover said that students will be asked for two forms of identification at the door, including their Bonaventure ID. Garlick said event coordinators have worked around the clock to ensure the Skeller party will be plenty of fun.
