After being closed since Nov. 1, 2017, the university plans to demolish the Clubhouse Restaurant and, in its place, build an open-air pavilion with food and beverage service and new restrooms.
The university had initial plans to reopen the clubhouse on April 1, 2018; however, it still needed upgrades to the boiler, heating, ventilation, plumbing and air conditioning before opening again.
Prior to its closing, the Clubhouse Restaurant had been open since 1929 and had partnered with Aramark since 1959 to provide food.
“University officials, in concert with Aramark officials, determined that repairing significant infrastructure problems with the restaurant — plumbing, heating and cooling, siding, bathrooms, kitchen — wasn’t worth the investment,” Tom Missel, the university’s chief communications officer, said.
According to Missel, the hope is to have the golf course project completed by fall, but until pricing for the other two projects can be determined, an accurate timeline won’t be known.
In addition to the permanent closing of the Clubhouse Restaurant, Missel said Aramark will be making significant upgrades to the Francis Hall Café and the trustees room and dining room in Doyle Hall, as well as the golf course.
“The Doyle project includes new restroom facilities and the removal of the wall that now separates the dining and trustees rooms, giving the university a larger space to hold events and attract conferences,” Missel said. “Bids are being sought for all three projects. Once bids are secured, university officials will determine the scope of the golf course pavilion project and establish a timeline for completion of all three projects.”
