St. Bonaventure University’s Campus Activities Board, also known as CAB, is part of the reason why students have entertainment on campus.
A club open to all majors, CAB works with student activities in order to bring extracurricular programming for students at St. Bonaventure and for the community. The members are in charge of bringing entertainment to campus, including award-winning artists, comedians, bands and more. They also host programs aimed for students, such as trivia nights, grocery bingo, gift card bingo and seasonal activities such as pumpkin painting.
CAB conducts road-trips that students can sign up for. These trips include bus rides to Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres games, going to live stage performances at Buffalo theaters and shopping and sightseeing trips to New York City.
Dana Porzio was appointed as president of CAB in the spring semester of 2019 and is to stay in this position for the 2019-2020 school year.
“The mission of CAB is to bring a large variety of activities and events to students ranging from bus trips, to bringing in outside acts and homegrown activities,” said Porzio.
She does not work alone. CAB has an executive board and a general board, composed of 25 members collectively and overseen by Mary Frac, the club’s advisor.
“Our Executive Board meets Sunday at 4 p.m. in the CAB office. Our Special Events General Board Committee meeting is every other Thursday at 7 p.m. in the CAB office,” said Porzio. “Our Interactive General Board Committee meeting is every other Tuesday at 12:20 p.m. in the CAB office. Our Skeller General Board Committee meeting meets every other Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the CAB office.”
CAB is unique in its member system.
“You do not have to be a member of CAB to join the Planning Committee,” said Porzio.
CAB is always looking for new people and voices to inspire others for events on campus.
“We currently are still looking for an Executive Board Special Events Co-Chair. If anyone would be interested in that position, please feel free to reach out! Our General Board Committees are always looking for new members as well,” said Porzio.
Feedback and ideas are always welcomed at these meetings. They can also be reached via email. The CAB email is sbucab@sbu.edu or by emailing Porzio at porziodn16@bonaventure.edu.
Meetings are held to discuss past events as well as what to plan next. They keep calendars filled with activities for students.
“This Friday the 15th is Trivia 8 p.m. in the Skeller. The 16th is a Viewing Party in the MC [Ministry Center] for the Bonnies vs. Rutgers game at 7:30 p.m.,” said Porzio.
She also noted that these events, like many others, includes free refreshments for those who attend.
“The 22nd is Bingo in the Hickey. The 23rd we have two bus trips. We will have our NYC Holiday Bus Trip. We are also sponsoring a trip with athletics to the Bonaventure vs. Canisius Game at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo,” said Porzio.
Tickets for these trips are going on sale soon. They are also planning for Spring Weekend.
CAB keeps the campus alive and exciting with student life being its focus. The club is active on social media in order to give updates on events. Its Twitter and Instagram account are @sbucab.
