“She-Ra and the Princesses of Power” is a Netflix 2018 original remake of the 1985, “She-ra: Princess of Power.” These days, the most popular reference to the 1985 version is most likely the He-man’s “What’s goin’ on” meme. Sadly, He-man has not been, nor will he ever be, included in the show.
The creator of the Netflix remake, Noelle Stevenson, tells Animation Magazine, “When I first pitched the show, I approached it as if it had one season, but we now have four arcs of 13 episodes done.” Now, thanks to her crew and large fanbase, it has four seasons and 39 episodes.
It follows the life of Adora, an orphan raised alongside her best friend Catra, in the evil empire called The Horde. Adora sneaks out during a training mission and finds the legendary sword of She-ra in the Whispering Woods. Glimmer, an enemy of The Horde, wants the sword, but only Adora can wield its power. Glimmer and her friend Bow instead show Adora The Horde’s attacks on civilians, which were kept secret from her. She joins The Rebellion and leaves Catra. Although at the start of the series, Catra protects Adora in hope she will return to The Horde, they slowly drift farther from one another as it becomes clear neither one of them will change their minds as to which side they’re on.
While She-ra and the Princesses of Power have not yet been confirmed for a fifth season, it is to be expected. Season 1 was released in November of 2018, season 2 released in April of 2019, season 3 released in August and season 4 released last November, a year after the start of season 1. Season 5 could come out as early as April 2020. It is very possible season 5 will be split into two sections in the same way that seasons 2 and 3 were.
Season 4 built up to meeting Horde prime, the most powerful antagonist in the series. His leadership in The Horde will undoubtedly be a huge part of the Season 5 plot. We can also look forward to Glimmer being reunited with her father, as well as the rescue of Glimmer and Catra. Double Trouble will most likely continue to play both sides. What the fans are most excited about, from the plethora of social media posts and protests, is a redemption arc for Catra.
