WSBU 88.3 “The Buzz,” St. Bonaventure University’s on-campus radio station, has stayed an unsung hero for the campus and local community. Music, creativity, news, sports and opinions are all topics shared through the voices of the students on “The Buzz.”
Chandler Poczciwinski, a senior accounting major and station manager, has been a long-time member of “The Buzz” and assists in running the radio station.
“I became a member the first semester of my freshman year. I fell in love with ‘The Buzz’ the second I heard about it,” said Poczciwinski.
He has devoted himself to “The Buzz” and has taken leadership roles in it.
“I started as a DJ and as a staff member of the production department,” said Poczciwinski. “Then the second semester of my freshman year, I was elected as one of the [directors] of the production department. Then last year I was elected Station Manager”
This radio station is completely student run and advised by Dr. Carole McNall, an associate professor in the Jandoli School of Communication.
The club has a clear mission to help students find themselves on campus as well as prepare students with their futures.
“WSBU-FM seeks to provide volunteers of all disciplines an opportunity to learn, develop and apply their communications skills,” said Poczciwinski. “WSBU-FM and its board of directors will encourage growth and development among itself, as well as all disc jockeys and staff, so that if they choose, they will enter the professional media with a firm foundation of knowledge, skill, appreciation and teamwork.”
Students are consistently welcomed each year and encouraged to join “The Buzz” because the club strives for a well-rounded staff.
It is these leaders’ responsibilities to meet with their staff members to ensure their departments are running smoothly.
“At board meetings, we discuss everything that involves running a radio station such as managing our budget, putting on events and planning for the future,” said Poczciwinski.
On Saturday, Sept. 26, “The Buzz” hosted a live DJ set under the tent next to the Sandra A. and William L. Richter Recreation Center.
“We have a couple great events in the works that we have not announced yet, so keep an eye out for those,” said Poczciwinski. “The Buzz’’ is lively on campus, providing entertainment that coincides with the current COVID-19 regulations.
Bonaventure campus radio station provides unique opportunities for its members. Various staff members are provided the chance to broadcast from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio and broadcast from Radio Row at the Super Bowl. can you get a quote about this so it’s explained more?
The station’s content can be reached through different platforms.
“People in Olean can tune in to 88.3FM 24/7 to hear our programming. Additionally, people can tune in worldwide by using the internet stream on our website,” said Poczciwinski.
“Lastly, despite COVID-19 we are still operating and putting on great events so if you are interested in getting involved don’t be afraid to reach out,” said Poczciwinski.
The global pandemic is not slowing down this club on campus.
