By John Pullano, Editor-In-Chief
Am I ready to write this? Probably not. Will I ever be ready to write this? Definitely not. But we do not want to delay yet another BV Wednesday so here goes nothing.
Off the top I want to thank all the editors that worked by my side. I took the position as the Opinion section editor during the Spring Semester of my freshman year. Alongside Meghan Hall and Landon Allison at news, Cammie Dutchess at features and Mike Hogan and Sean Mickey at sports I was introduced to journalism and you all helped me fall in love with it.
To Mike Hogan specifically, thank you for bringing me into the sports section and showing me the ropes. The sports sections allowed me to meet all sorts of characters working in Bonaventure athletics. The biggest character being Larry Sudbrook, who I want to thank for calling me out for my lack of preparation during my first ever interview for a sports story.
To Kelly and Natalie, my first two Editor-in-Chiefs, thank you for being strong powerful women commanding the newsroom. Thank you for helping me to learn how to write interesting and hard hitting stories all the while making Wednesday’s the craziest and best night of the week.
To Dominic LoVallo, thank you for in only our short time together helping me to master the beast that is InDesign and teaching me that you can take life a little less seriously and still get the job done.
And to Matthew Villanueva, thank you for taking up the position of the Opinion section editor following my departure. But mostly thank you for running with the position. Even as an English and adolescent education major you took the position with pride and even took a position as the Features Editor redefining what other majors can do with their position in the newspaper.
And to all of my 2020 Fall BV staff, thank you for sticking with me. Tom Seipp, thank you for your openness and honesty that has improved not only the sports section better but expanded my own mind. Max McAuliff, thank you for your unapologetic and constant joy that you brought to every Wednesday night brightening the room even in the darkness of 2 a.m. Cammie Dutchess, thank you for…well I do not have enough words to describe all that I am thankful for from you…you were so incredible this semester that you have left even my loud mouth at a loss for words.
And finally, a thank you to my main supporter, my mentor and the one who got me into this big, beautiful mess that is the BV. Ryan Signorino, thank you for giving me an opportunity and taking a chance on me as the opinion editor, thank you for helping me believe in myself and helping to shape me and guide me in journalism and never asking for anything in return. You have had an impact on me that is not describable in words.
To the entire BV and all those that I have worked alongside, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the inside jokes, late nights, Dominos pizzas, broken computers, club fairs, paper drop offs, laughs, hugs and friends. The BV is all about the people and it will be missed. Love you BV.
