I applaud the people that have worn glasses their whole life. These people definitely have a lot of mental toughness because, after just a few days of having to wear them, I’ve gotten so irritated.
I’ve been told that I’ll get used to them. As of right now, I’m here to report that it will be a miracle if I ever get used to these. They do fit my face and I’m happy that I can now see better and focus on other aspects of life that I haven’t been able to in a while, but I’m not a fan of how they look, and quite frankly they feel weird on my face.
As per allaboutvision.com, 164 million Americans wear glasses regularly. This number is quite staggering, because by the numbers, that is just about half our population. We know as humans grow older, our eyes start to not be able to perform as well. That being said, humans have created glasses that help our eyes focus and see much better.
I’m not bashing glasses because I do believe that they work very well and honestly, most people probably thought like I did before I got my glasses “oh, I don’t need glasses.” As time went on, people continued to notice that I was squinting my eyes to see different things. This led to me going to get my eyes checked and boom, I was getting a prescription to wear glasses.
So now that I have them, my life has changed drastically. Although it may seem like I’m freaking out, I am and there’s no reason to. Glasses are here to help me, and they help as the number stated earlier, 164 million people in America every day.
I never knew that it would be such a change in my life though. I did not realize that as soon as I put these glasses on, I could see that much better. It’s a weird feeling to be able to experience that because before you put the glasses on, you’re blind to what you are actually seeing. You can only see what your eyes allow you to.
During my eye exam, the ophthalmologist had me read distanced letters with no help covering one eye and then after, had me read over the same lines with help. Now, I can say that it was a 180-degree turnaround. It was such a surprise how much better I was able to see the letters with the help of the glasses.
So, as I was trying to think of what to write about this week, I thought to myself, why not personalize the story this week? I just got my new glasses and they have affected my life, but I need to come to the realization that it’s for the better. I never understood how much glasses help people but now I view the people that have worn glasses for so long as heroes.
My final point, not everyone needs glasses, but when you do need them, they help immensely and I’m glad I’ve got them now.
