The 64th annual Grammy Awards is coming up on Sunday, April 3. This is after the original show date was postponed from Jan. 31, because of the risk and uncertainty of the Omicron variant. The show will air on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
Trevor Noah, host of “The Daily Show,” will host the Grammys again this year. He hosted the 63rd Grammys last year. The January awards show was going to take place at the Crypto.com Arena, formerly known as the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, California. The postponed April show will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Nominations for record of the year are “I Still Have Faith In You” by ABBA, “Freedom” by Jon Batiste, “I Get a Kick Out of You” by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, “Peaches” by Justin Bieber featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, “Right on Time” by Brandi Carlile, “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat featuring SZA, “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” by Lil Nas X, “Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Leave The Door Open” by Silk Sonic.
Silk Sonic is made up of Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak. The two joined together to form this R&B, soul, funk band.
Nominations for album of the year are “We Are” by Jon Batiste, “Love for Sale” by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, “Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe)” by Justin Bieber, “Planet Her (Deluxe)” by Doja Cat, “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish, “Back of My Mind” by H.E.R, “Montero” by Lil Nas X, “Sour” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Evermore” by Taylor Swift and “Donda” by Kanye West.
The best new artist nominations are Arooj Aftab, Jimmie Allen, Baby Keem, FINNEAS, Glass Animals, Japanese Breakfast, The Kid LAROI, Arlo Parks, Olivia Rodrigo and Saweetie.
Best pop solo performance nominations are “Anyone” by Justin Bieber, “Right on Time” by Brandi Carlile, “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish, “Positions” by Ariana Grande, and “Drivers License” by Olivia Rodrigo.
Artists who are supposed to perform at the show include Billie Eilish, Brandi Carlile, Brothers Osborne, BTS, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo.
Rodrigo is a first-time Grammy nominee this year after her debut album, “Sour,” was released in May 2021. The Disney star is nominated for seven Grammy awards.
Kanye West has been blocked from performing at the award show despite receiving five nominations. Variety said one of the rapper’s representatives confirmed that he has been blocked because of “concerning online behavior.” West used a slur against this year’s Grammys host, Trevor Noah, in an Instagram post and West has continually harassed Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Pete Davidson, said Variety.
“Hurricane” by Kanye West featuring The Weeknd and Lil Baby was nominated for best melodic Rap Performance. “Jail” by Kanye West featuring Jay-Z was nominated for a best rap song. “Donda” by Kanye West was nominated for best rap album and also an album of the year.
