Some students may be in a slump or are bored with their usual weekend routine. Here are some activities that students can attend to entertain themselves or stay busy this weekend.
Spectrum is hosting a game show from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 8 in the auditorium of the John J. Murphy Professional Building. Students will answer questions to earn gift card prizes and better educate themselves about the LGBTQIA+ community.
There are a couple of home sporting events on campus this weekend and students are encouraged to attend. Women’s lacrosse is playing La Salle at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 8 at the Tom ’80 and Michelle Marra Athletics Fields Complex. Men’s lacrosse is playing Monmouth on Saturday, April 9 at 12 p.m. Students can show up to the games and cheer on their classmates. Viewers can also stream both games on ESPN+.
The play ‘‘We Live by the Sea,’’ has two more shows this weekend. One on Friday, April 8 and one on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Students can attend the play in the Garret Theater. Student advanced tickets are $6. Free student rush seating begins at 6:30 p.m. on the day of the performance. All seats are assigned, so anyone who wants a ticket must call or visit the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts box office.
Students can also better the community this weekend by cleaning up the Allegheny River Valley Trail that circles campus. On Friday, April 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. members of the environmental capstone class will be cleaning the trail and introducing the new and updated trail signs. Materials for cleaning will be provided. Students will meet at the entrance to the trail near the tennis courts. The trail cleanup will occur no matter the weather, even in the rain or snow.
Students can also volunteer at the Warming House in Olean, which is believed to be the oldest student-run soup kitchen in the nation. Students can prepare meals for less fortunate and elderly members of the community.
Another place for students to volunteer is at the SPCA in Cattaraugus County which is in Olean. A van can transport students over the weekend if they sign up for a trip. Students can walk the dogs and play with the cats. The animals deserve to be shown some love rather than just sit there all alone in the shelter.
From Friday, April 8 to Saturday, April 9 there will be a women’s retreat at Mount Irenaeus. Students who attend will cook dinner, chat and have snacks around the fireplace. Transportation will be leaving from University Ministries at 4 p.m. on Friday and returning Saturday morning.
Freshens Food Kitchen is on the east side of campus in Francis Hall. Freshens now has acai bowls on its menu. Students can try the acai bowls as some motivation to get their homework done and to be productive over the weekend.
Café La Verna is another good place for students to treat themselves to a drink while studying, writing a paper, or doing their schoolwork.
The Notice Board has up to date information on on-campus events. Students should check the Notice Board for updates and further details of on-campus events and activities to do this weekend.
