Enjoy a coffee as a reward – Elizabeth Egan / The Bona Venture

The first couple weeks of classes have begun for students and the air is filled with the excitement of a new semester. For some, establishing a routine has been easy. For others, it has been more challenging, and the procrastination of work or laundry has already set in.
It can be hard to get into a school routine again, especially if you are coming off of a busy summer, or if you are not exactly thrilled with the classes you are taking this semester. Whatever the case may be, here are a few tips to help get you out of the slump you are in and motivate you to have a good semester.
The weather is only nice for so long, especially here in New York. Getting outside while you can is a good way to get some fresh air and give yourself a change of scenery to come back to your dorm or library with a new headspace. Fall here at Bonaventure is right around the corner with lots of fun fall activities to go and do with your friends as a nice break from campus life.
While many of us use our phones as a break when we are doing homework or studying, in reality we are making ourselves unproductive by falling down the scrolling rabbit hole for longer than we intend to. Putting your phone in another room, in a desk drawer, or turning it off completely is a good way to not only force yourself to get more work done, but also avoid the scrolling break. Doing things like getting a snack or a drink, taking a walk around the library or your dorm, or even doing a quick meditation are better ways to take a study break that will bring you back to your work while still in a productive mindset.
College is hard, especially at the beginning of the semester. Getting yourself into a new routine can be challenging, so do not be so hard on yourself if you have fallen into a slump. It happens to everyone at some point in the semester. The important part is doing something small every day to pull yourself out of that slump so you can have a semester that you feel proud of.
