Christmas music began playing Tuesday, Nov. 1, on Sirius XM radio 102.5. Is it too early for Christmas music? For some, maybe. However, is it too early to start thinking about Christmas shopping? Some say people are already behind.
Christmas shopping is going to look different for some this year, such as some freshman in college, for many reasons, but the first being money. College students spend enough money on tuition, groceries and outings, so frugal spending is a must.
A recommendation to help save money is the resource Honey. Honey is a free installment that searches the internet for coupons, so shoppers do not have to. Once Honey is installed and an account is made, the online shopping continues as normal, but saving options are at one’s fingertips. The coupon codes appear on the screen and one can choose to apply the coupons as they see fit.
A resource is the app, UNiDAYS. This app is created specifically for college students and features companies running deals and showcases coupon codes. Current offers include free Amazon Prime and Prime video for 6 months, which could be useful around the holidays. Amazon Prime can cut the costs of shipping and speed up the shopping process. Additionally, the app allows for a customizable interest page, which prioritizes shopper’s top brands such as Apple, American Eagle, Verizon and Ugg.
Another aspect to consider this holiday season is the gift of an experience. Bonaventure’s winter break begins Dec. 16 and ends on Jan. 17, which gives students plenty of time to plan a day or even afternoon of activities for a loved one. Watching movies using the free student trial of Amazon Prime Video, walking around to find the best Christmas lights in town, or attempting to make your grandma’s recipes are all forms of quality time you could give to a loved one this season.
Gift giving as a college student does not have to be expensive or extravagant. Consider using some of the resources provided and remember it truly is the thought that counts.
