Her Campus, a global women-run online magazine, has over 400 chapters, one of them being at St. Bonaventure. Writers across all four years are able to come together and bond over similar themes of womanhood.

Her Campus empowers women in their media content and allows colleges to write close to home on personal issues like stress management, or global debates such as abortion. Articles such as “Living In Our Very Own ‘Fahrenheit 451” versus “Which Taylor Swift Song You Are Based On Your Favorite Gilmore Girls Ship” offer readers a piece for whatever mood they are on.

“We have creative freedom,” Karolina Dombaxi, senior journalism major and president of our Her Campus chapter remarked. “When there is a debate happening online, or if there’s something viral on the internet we get to be a part of that. We’ve got advice, tips, reviews and everything you could possibly want to read about.”

When women come together to write, they become empowered. Members work hard to continue to build their comradery. Both meetings and outside bonding events are spent getting to know each other and sharing stories. Writing and editing are done outside of meeting times so meetings can be focused on creating new goals and open discussion on projection of the club.

“We discuss articles that we wrote and come up with some goals for the week,” Dombaxi expressed. “My goals for Her Campus SBU are to make the club a well-known and registered student organization on campus.”

One important distinction is that Her Campus is not only for journalism majors. While the club is filed under the Jandoli School of Communication, all academic pursuits are welcome to write. Weekly, members write one 400-word story of a topic of their choosing and attend one meeting.

The future is bright for Her Campus. While already quite established, they aspire to add more members, build their social media presence and work more closely with surrounding chapters.

“Last semester, we partnered with a skincare brand called Sweet Chef,” Dombaxi noted. “I’m hoping that Her Campus can collaborate with more brands in the future.”

Her Campus is always looking for new members. To join, email Karolina Dombaxi at dombaxk19@bonaventure.edu and attend Monday night meetings at 7:00 p.m. in Murphy 105 next semester.
