The St. Bonaventure Men’s and women’s tennis teams continued their spring season as the men traveled to Clevland to take on Cleveland State and Xavier, followed by a trip to Virginia to take on Davidson and Virginia Tech, while the women traveled to West Point to take on Fordham, Stony Brook and Army this past week.
The men, who won their only match of the season against Loyola (MD) dropped two straight matches, a 5-2 decision against Cleveland State and a 6-1 decision to Xavier, followed by a 6-1 defeat to Davidson and a 7-0 defeat to Virginia Tech in Virginia.
The men picked up two victories in Singles action on Saturday as freshman Connor Turner took two out of three matches over Cole Chapell after dropping a 6-3 decision in the first set, and junior Luke Young swept Ty Rothchild with two straight 7-5 decisions. Doubles action was not kind to the Bonnies as Cleveland State swept all three matches.
Against Xavier, freshman Archie Graham picked up the lone victory, taking two out of three sets, 6-3, 3-6 and 10-8. Graham would also pick up the lone victory against Davidson, defeating William Clark in two 6-1 sets.
On the women’s side, senior Ameilia Haley was the star of the weekend, picking up three victories, two in singles competition and one in doubles. Against Fordham, Haley took two of three sets from Lindsay Hung by scores of 3-6, 6-2 and 10-6 and swept Stony Brook’s Debby Mastrodima. junior Anastasia Gubanova and freshmen Sienna Smith also picked up victories against Stony Brook.
In double action, Haley and sophomore Alexandra Jannsson picked up the th 6-3 victory against Fordham while their match against Stony Brook went unfinished. Army would get the best of the Bonnies, sweeping all of the singles and doubles matches.
The women will host their home opener this weekend, hosting Slippery Rock at 1pm on Saturday and against Mercyhurst at 2 p.m Sunday. On the men’s side, they will host Mecryhurst at 10 a.m Sunday.
