After a chilly couple of weeks to start the month, St. Bonaventure University students have spring break to look forward to. The break will be from Feb. 26 to March 5. Some students will be taking the opportunity to escape the cold and go down south.
Megan Hartsell, a junior health science major from Ellicottville. She will be spending her break by going to Tampa, Florida for seven days.
Hartsell is excited to take advantage of several warm weather activities while in Florida.
“We are planning on going to Disney, the beach, kayaking with manatees and spending lots of time in the sun,” Hartsell said.
Hartsell said she will be going with her best friend.
“I am most excited to take a break from school,” Hartsell said. “And spend time somewhere warm.”
Hartsell will be staying with her cousin and said she looks forward to the time spent together.
Another student who has a trip planned is Maddie Wiles, a junior marketing major, who will be going to Fort Lauderdale with friends from Bonaventure and from her hometown.
“I’m going with 12 other people,” Wiles said. “I think most of us are looking forward to relaxing in a warm environment outside of anything else.”
“To make sure everyone is able to stay together we rented an Airbnb for five nights, from Feb. 26 to March 3,” said Wiles.
There is a pool at the airbnb, where wiles said she will be by when she is not at the beach.
“If we have time we are planning on getting a boat or going jet skiing while we’re there which will be a ton of fun,” Wiles said.
These activities are a stark contrast to what people do for fun when on campus.
Junior Callie Kessler, an undeclared communications major from North Haven, Connecticut, said she will stay on campus in her townhouse. A member of the women’s lacrosse team, she hasthree games during the break, meaning she cannot go home. The team will be playing on Feb. 25 at home against Akron, March 1 against Siena and then on the road March 4 against Bucknell.
To compensate for staying on campus over break, Kessler said she will be going on a trip to Arizona with her team to play at Arizona State University on Feb. 18. Kessler said she is excited to travel to Arizona State for the opportunity to have some free time and explore while there.
Kessler said that even though she can’t go home, she is looking forward to the free time she will have during the break.
“We [the women’s lacrosse team] might go into Ellicottville,” Kessler said. “During (our) season, we don’t have a lot of free time to do things like that, so I think it would be great to take advantage of all our free time!”
