Spring Weekend 2023 is finally here and St. Bonaventure University students are gearing up for the festivities and excitement, especially the freshman.
The freshman class will be experiencing its first Spring Weekend and many students say that they are excited for the activities that are planned and to hopefully be outside if the weather is nice.
Spring Weekend festivities include: a photo booth, karaoke, bingo and food. Many students say the most notable activity during spring weekend is the kickball tournament. The kickball teams are comprised of students and they play kickball in head-to-head matchups in single eliminations format. Fifty-five teams and over 800 students are playing in the tournament.
“I’ve heard freshman teams hardly win the tournament,” said Daniel Casper, a freshman rugby player. “It’s going to be interesting what we bring this year.”
According to students, the games get competitive as well, especially with the mix of students that are playing in the tournament.
“I’m getting a group together and hopefully we go pretty far,” said Casper, “We have mostly [men’s] rugby players in our roster.”
Other teams are made up of friend groups rather than official sports teams .
“I will be on a team with my best friends,” said Roslyn Stein, a freshman at Bonaventure.
One of the most exciting elements of the kickball experience, besides watching the games, is coming up with team names and designing team shirts.
“What really draws my attention is the creative names that the other teams came up with,” said Stein.
The kickball games will be played on Friday, April 28th at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., and 6 p.m., and on Saturday, April 29th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fields are located behind the multi-purpose turf fields
Other than kickball, the Campus Activity Board will host numerous activities. CAB is hosting big budget bingo, karaoke in the Rathskeller, life-size Hungry Hungry Hippos and other activities. The activities will be spread out over the two days. On Friday, the activities will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday the activities will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The full schedule is on the Bonnies Connect app or CAB’s Instagram page (@sbucab).
“I’m excited to try the food and play games,” said Stein.
Food-wise, CAB and dining services will serve food outside on both days and the Hickey will be closed during this time.
“I’m most excited to see everyone on campus be out and about in hopefully good weather,” said Casper, “It will be a nice way to celebrate the end of the year with all my friends”.
