ST. BONAVENTURE, NY — After consecutive wins in Atlantic 10 Conference play, the St. Bonaventure University women’s soccer team suffered its first loss in conference play, 2-0, Sunday at the Marra Athletics Complex.
The loss now puts the Bonnies at 3-3-5 overall (2-1-1 A-10) and boosted the Dukes to 5-5-2 overall (2-0-2 A-10), putting Duquesne second in the A-10 standings and St. Bonaventure fourth.
Neither team scored during the first half, making the score 0-0 at halftime. That score would change in the second half when Dukes defender Karley Steinher scored a header, assisted by forward Margey Brown, in the 67th minute. The Dukes would score again in the 72nd minute with a Brianna Moore goal on an open net.
The Bonnies had 10 total shots but only one was on goal. Bonnies’ goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger had three saves.
Next, the Bonnies travel to Richmond Virginia to take on the Richmond Spiders (2-7-3 overall, 0-4 A-10) at Claiborne Robins Stadium Sunday at 2 p.m. The Dukes host the University of Massachusetts Minutewomen (6-3-2 overall, 3-1-0 A-10) on Rooney Field Thursday at 7 p.m.
