RICHMOND, VA — The Richmond women’s soccer team earned its first Atlantic 10 Conference victory of the season Sunday, beating St. Bonaventure 2-1.

With the win, the Spiders (3-7-3, 1-4 A-10) improved to 12th in the A-10 standings. The Bonnies (3-4-5, 2-2-1 A-10) fell to ninth, one spot out of playoff position.

In the first half, Bonaventure took a 1-0 lead on an Olivia Allen penalty kick. The Bonnies offense pressured Richmond for most of the first half.

In the second half, Richmond began to pressure the Bonnies. Molly Wierman scored on a free kick for the Spiders. Only five minutes later, Richmond was awarded another free kick, which led to Hannah Antonicks game-leading goal, assisted by Gwen Howell.

The Bonnies struggled to piece together lengthy offensive drives, like they had in the first half, only recording a total of 4 shots on goal. Richmond turned the tide with  2 goals on 7 shots on goal in the second half.

After the game, Richmond coach Adam Denton said his team struggled in the first half but picked up the pace in the second half.

“It feels really good to get a win at home,” said Denton. “We’ve been working really hard, and it’s been unfortunate dropping a few games.”

The Bonnies travel to the University of Massachusetts to take on a team that is undefeated at home Sunday at 1 p.m. The Spiders head on the road to take on Saint Louis, a team that is undefeated in conference play.
