The St. Bonaventure University men’s soccer team hosts the University of Massachusetts Minutemen Wednesday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
The Bonnies (4-4-2 overall, 1-2 A-10) return home after playing two teams, Robert Morris and Dayton, on the road last week.
“It’s good to be home,” Bonaventure head coach Kwame Oduro said. “When you have to play A-10 [Atlantic 10 Conference] games at home, that’s what you want.”
Bonaventure tied with Robert Morris and lost against Dayton.
“You would think that after the Dayton game that we would be down,” Oduro said. “But I don’t think I’ve ever seen my team train as efficiently as they did on Monday. It was incredible.”
The Minutemen (4-4-3 overall, 1-2-0 A-10) are coming off of a tie and then a win against Vermont and George Washington, respectively. UMass sits 11th in the A-10 standings, while Bonaventure is one point ahead in 10th. The Bonnies are also ahead of the Minutemen in goals scored this season, ranking sixth and seventh in the A-10, respectively.
Oduro said limiting UMass’ Alec Hughes will be critical to his team’s success.
“You stop him, you have a good chance of winning,” Oduro said.
Hughes leads the A-10 in points and goals this season. UMass’ Nick Zielonka also holds the lead for assists in the A-10.
Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on ESPN+.
