The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team hosts UAlbany in the Reilly Center Thursday night.
The Bonnies (1-1, 0-0 A-10) picked up their first victory of the season over Robert Morris on Saturday.
“It was good to see us rewarded for doing some good things,” said Bonaventure head coach Jim Crowley. “Overall, we did a pretty good job taking care of the ball. We didn’t give up easy scores and we followed our game plan. We certainly played hard, and I’m certainly pleased with those things.”
Senior guard Dani Haskell scored a game-high 23 points in her Bonaventure debut. Redshirt senior forward Claire Cody went 3-6 from three and scored 13 points.
“[Haskell] had to handle the ball way more than we’d like her to, which certainly impacted her shooting numbers,” said Crowley. “Her ability to get shots off and her ability to make free throws, I think all those things were really important and freed some things up for other people.”
The Great Danes (2-1, 0-0 AEC) are coming off a lobsided 118-27 victory over Sarah Lawrence Monday. Six UAlbany players finished in double figures. Junior guard Lilly Phillips led the way with 18 points and four steals.
UAlbany also has some familiar faces on the roster as junior guard Meghan Huerter and graduate student guard Fatima Lee both played under Jim Crowley at Providence.
“Meg can shoot it and comes from a basketball family and Fatima has really settled in,” said Crowley. “It’s good to see them doing well. I think they certainly went to a good program.”
The game can be heard on WSBU 88.3 FM with the pre-game show starting at 6:45 p.m. for a 7:00 p.m. tip. The game also will be streamed live on ESPN+.
