Repairs to the roof’s of Robinson and Falconio halls at St. Bonaventure University completed earlier this week as workers prepared the freshman residence halls for winter weather.

“There was a manufacturing defect in some of [the] materials that were used,” said Jared Smith, Bonaventure’s director of Facilities Operations. “It was necessary to replace the defective areas before winter.”

The glue used during last year’s roof replacements was faulty, said Smith. Robinson and Falconio halls were the only buildings on campus to experience this issue.

“[The construction] will help to make sure that the roof doesn’t leak on over 400 students,” said Smith.

Students residing in Robinson and Falconio acknowledged the necessity of the roof repairs. However, some students said they were disturbed by the noise from the construction.

“The noise is a bit annoying,” said Rose Pfeiffer, a freshman educational studies major. “Sometimes I have to use a different exit to go to my classes.”

Hayden Watt, the resident assistant of Robinson hall and a sophomore sports management major, agreed with Pfeiffer.

“I have been slightly aggravated by the sound of the construction, especially when in the RA Hut,” said Watt. “Nothing too significant, however.”

Other students said they hardly noticed the roof repairs, if at all.

“I was not affected by the construction [on] Robinson,” said Liz Firpo, a freshman sports media major. “I [also] have not noticed anything wrong with Robinson.”

The university hired Peterson Roofing, an Olean-based company, to fix the roofs. Smith specified that the university paid nothing due to the fact that the work was covered under warranty.
