The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team fell to Little Three rival Canisius 63-56 Thursday Night in the Reilly Center.
Despite a 20-point performance by junior guard Isabellah Middleton, the Bonnies (2-5, 0-0 A-10) couldn’t catch up offensively with the Golden Griffins (3-3, 0-0 A-10). Bonaventure struggled from the 3-point line, going just 2-17 from behind the arc. Canisius shot 10-26 from the 3-point line, with four of those shots coming from senior guard Mackenzie Amalia. The Bonnies trailed by as many as 13 points with 4 minutes to go and were only able to cut Canisius’ lead to 7 to end the game.
“The second quarter was probably our worst quarter all year, just based on effort and communication,” said Bona head coach Jim Crowley. “And credit to Canisius — they kept making enough shots to keep us at arm’s length”
The Bonnies scored just 8 points in the second quarter, going 3-12 from the field. St. Bonaventure also committed 7 turnovers in the second half.
“We can’t let folks go for 10-26,” said Crowley about Canisius’ 3-point shooting. “That’s the bigger thing for me is that in the second quarter they were 3-5, and in the fourth quarter they were 3-4.”
The Bonnies will take on West Virginia in WVU Coliseum, on Dec. 2. Tipoff is set for 12p.m.
