This weekend is St. Bonaventure University’s annual Spring Weekend. This event is held for students to unwind and celebrate the end of the academic year. Students have various opportunities to participate in activities such as a kickball tournament, inflatables, bingo, karaoke and s’mores under the Marchiori Pavilion, outside of Devereux Hall.

Spring Weekend will be held from Friday, April 26 to Saturday, April 27.

Claire Fisher, a junior communication, social justice and advocacy major said she appreciates what’s planned for this year’s events.

“I think the schedule looks great. There’s really something for everyone and there’s a lot you can pick and choose from,” said Fisher. “ I can go to one thing and not have to commit for very long before the next activity.”

Jenna Keppel, the assistant director for student activities, programming and engagement, plans and executes the activities for Spring Weekend.

“It’s a fun way to get out of your room,” said Keppel. “There’s a bunch of different events going on that hopefully there is something for everyone.”

Keppel said that the kickball tournament is the majority of students’ favorite part of the weekend. According to Keppel, over 800 students are participating in the tournament this year.

“It’s definitely a very fun tradition that Spring Weekend brings,” said Keppel. “Being able to brag about being the ‘kickball champs’ for that year, I know students really like that as well.”

Fisher is looking forward to playing kickball with her roommates this year after taking last year off.

“For spring weekend, the kickball tournament is what I am most looking forward to,” said Fisher. “I am excited to get back in the game with our fun t-shirts.”

Amanda Ippolito, a sophomore early childhood education major said that one of her favorite memories from last year was during the kickball tournament.

“My favorite Spring Weekend memory was watching my friends play kickball last year in the pouring rain,” said Ippolito.

Aside from kickball, students enjoy many different events over the weekend. According to Keppel, bingo is an activity that is very well received by students.

“Bingo is one of the most well-attended events that we have in general on campus,” said Keppel. “We really up the prizes for this one so it gets a lot of people wanting to go.”

Another activity that students enjoy is karaoke in the Rathskeller, said Keppel.

“Karaoke is always fun to go down in the ‘Skeller, have some food and sing some songs with your friends,” said Keppel. “Last year it was supposed to end around 10 p.m., but we went on until midnight and [students] were upset that we had to shut down the ‘Skeller.”

This year, a student group helped to plan out the weekend.

“[Students] said that they wanted to see [bingo and karaoke] again, so that was a big reason why we chose those,” said Keppel.

Ippolito is looking forward to spending time with her friends this weekend.

“I look forward to hanging out with my friends and just spending time together during Spring Weekend before finals and the end of the semester,” said Ippolito.
