The St. Bonaventure women’s soccer team fell short to Canisius University tonight, getting shutout 2-0. The Bonnies could not get much going offensively and struggled to maintain possession, giving 10 fouls, including two yellow cards.

The Golden Griffins (3-1-1) struck early against the Bonnies (1-6-1),  scoring in the third minute. A corner kick from senior defender Erin Weir deflected off a Bonnies defender into the back of the net to put CU up 1-0.

Junior midfielder Lizzy Harkness was credited with the goal, making it her second of the season.

The Bonnies could not get much going offensively in the first half, but they made a pair of huge defensive stops in the 17th and 25th minutes to keep the deficit at a minimum.

In the second half, both offensives were kept at bay until the 69th minute.

Griffs caught goalkeeper senior Chiara Gottinger out of position when senior midfielder Emma Oliphant scored a long goal off an assist from freshman midfielder Meghan Joerger.

The Bonnies move to Atlantic 10 play next week at George Washington Sept. 19. The match begins at 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
