Cross-Country’s Scattergood finishes 1st in 8k

The St. Bonaventure men’s and women’s cross county teams compiled fifth and seventh place finishes at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational today.

In the men’s first 8k event of the season, junior Aiden Scattergood finished first overall out of 261 runners with a time of 25:26.2.  The Bonnies finished fifth overall out of 20 teams, compiling a team average of 27:06.7. 

Other top finishers for the Bonnies included junior Casey Mallory (placed 27th in 27:02.8), sophomore William McCarthy (placed 39th in 27:25.9), sophomore Brendan Chapple (placed 54th in 27:41.2) and freshman Nathan Sikorski (placed 65th in 27.57.1). The Bonnies received 170 points, finishing 15 points ahead of sixth place University of Rochester and 39 points behind fourth place Geneseo. 

In what was the first 6K event of the season for the women’s team, the Bonnies finished seventh overall out of 17 teams, compiling a team average of 24:26.3. Leading the way for the Bonnies was freshman Miranda Hapshi with a time of 23:30.9, good enough for 15th place out of 220 runners.

Other top finishers for the Bonnies included sophomore Katelyn Wilkes (placed 32nd in 24:17.7), freshman Maddie McMahon (placed 54th in 24:41.1), sophomore Jayne Gavin (placed 55th in 24:46.7) and junior Molly Gipson (placed 62nd in 24:54.9). The Bonnies received 194 points, finishing nine points ahead of the Rochester Institute of Technology in eighth place and three points behind sixth place Ithaca College. 

Next up for cross country is the Lock Haven Invitational, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania on Sept. 28. The starting times for both races are TBA.
