The St. Bonaventure’s women’s soccer team fell to 0-2-0 in Atlantic 10 play yesterday afternoon following a 1-0 loss to the University of Massachusetts.
The Bonnies (1-8-1, 0-2-0 A-10) committed 12 fouls and allowed UMass (6-3-1, 1-1-0 A-10) to take eight corner kicks.
The Minutewomen attacked early, curving a corner kick in the sixth minute that Bonnies senior goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger barely saved. Ten minutes later, UMass senior forward Ashley Lamond put a corner kick in front of the net, which senior forward Chandler Pedolzky knocked in for her third goal of the season.
The Bonnies showed some life early in the second half, getting their first shot on goal of the game in the 51st minute.
In the 65th minute, senior defender Sydney Hayward headed freshman midfielder Mahelie Barbeau’s corner kick into the net, but after official review, the goal was reversed due to an offside call.
St. Bonaventure had another opportunity to tie it up in the 75th minute, feeding a pass in front of the net to freshman midfielder Torrie Grant-Clavijo, but her shot went wide.
Gottinger kept the Bonnies in the game making 12 saves, but the offense only put four shots on goal, all coming in the second half.
Bonaventure continues its A-10 slate on Sunday the 29th at 1 p.m., when they travel to Virginia to take on the VCU Rams at Sports Backers Stadium. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
