A new addition to the Hickey Dining Hall has had students buzzing with excitement since its installation in September. Last month, the new Create Smoothie Station was installed in the Hickey Dining Hall for students to be able to create fresh fruit smoothies of their choosing.

The station hosts a multitude of different fruits, such as strawberries, mangos and pineapples, as well as yogurts to mix into a blend of one’s choosing.

“The new Create Smoothie Station was added to the Hickey as an enhancement to the dining experience, ” said Nicole Clark, Aramark General Manager. “Smoothies are another healthy option for students who dine in the Hickey. This was a ‘We heard you’ addition based on student and guest survey comments.”

This new addition to the Hickey is one of many efforts to provide more healthy options for students using the university meal plan, said Clark.

Recently, changes have been made to the Rathskeller menu and True Balance Station along with the new smoothie station.

The station has drawn lots of attention from students. The station is especially crowded during common hour periods causing some students to take issue with the congestion as there are only two blenders.

However, many students already have had many positive things to say about the new station, with some already building it into their daily routines.

“I love the new smoothie machine,” said Naple. “It is a sweet way to end out my breakfast without reaching for a donut and it’s nice to have a drink I can carry to class too.”

On top of this being a new healthy option for students to enjoy, the Create Smoothie Station has improved students’ opinions on the Hickey Dining Hall itself. Jahlil Alston, a sophomore cybersecurity major, stated that the new station makes his trips to the dining hall more worthwhile.

“As someone who enjoys drinking smoothies, the addition of the smoothie machine makes it easier for me to get a smoothie without having to walk a far distance to Freshens,” said Alston. “The smoothie machine definitely makes my time in the Hickey more enjoyable because I can make my own smoothies as it allows me to put my favorite fruits together.”
