Several student-athletes have been spotted traveling across campus on white or black electric scooters. This caused disapproval among students, which stemmed from one common belief: The university was providing student-athletes with electric scooters.
However, what many students were unaware of is that, according to Scott Eddy the assistant athletics director for strategic communications, the university didn’t provide student-athletes with scooters at all.
“There is no truth to that rumor,” said Eddy. “The Athletics Department is not providing scooters to student-athletes.”
The electric scooters can be found online at Walmart for as low as $209. Eddy said he believes this is where the athletes have been receiving their scooters from.
However, according to Brianna Bouge, the associate director of accessibility services and accommodations, the university has purchased a KneeRover — a mobility aid — for injured students through grant funding.
“Students with disabilities are asked to reach out to our office and request accommodations. The accommodation requests might be for housing accommodations, academic accommodations, or testing accommodations. We also help students with temporary disabilities,” said Bouge.
Students will also need to provide the Office of Accessibility Services and Accommodations with up-to-date documents demonstrating their disability.
