We asked 50 St. Bonaventure University students and staff where their favorite off-campus places to eat are.
With limited dining options on campus, some students travel to the surrounding towns to find their preferred place to eat.
Six participants named Don Tequila their favorite– a casual Mexican restaurant in Allegany on West Main Street.
“The food is always amazing and it’s always a good place to go with friends,” said Riley Hacic, a junior health science major.
For Chinese food, multiple students recommended QQ Buffet in Allegany on West State Street.
“It has buffet-style dining, it’s cheap, affordable and it’s a great place to go and enjoy dinner with your friends,” said Olivia Francis, a sophomore communications and social justice and advocacy major.
Students and faculty alike emphasized Hometown Bar and Grill as having delicious options.
“Good menu with decent prices and the food has always been good when I go there,” said Elizabeth Tillman, professor of political science.
With their signature roast beef, Beef-N-Barrel on North Union Street in Olean attracts Bonaventure students and families.
“The food is so delicious and the restaurant is so nice,” said Julia Jaeger, a freshman physical education major. “I don’t even feel like I’m in Olean.”
Sprague’s Maple Farms, in Portville, offers multiple layers of comfort and good food.
“Breakfast all day. It is so delicious,” said Ayla Batz, freshman strategic communications major. “They make their own maple syrup and sausage; which are both so yummy. The best thing on the menu though is the cinnamon roll. Also beautiful atmosphere, very cozy on the inside and stunning during the fall season.”
For a great atmosphere, Scott Simpson — a professor of chemistry — goes to Randy’s Up The River on 9 Mile Road in Allegany.
“Their sauce magic is great and the atmosphere is my style,” said Simpson. “I even had some wedding photos taken here.”
Andrew Belfield, professor of theology and Franciscan studies, recommends Century Manor on East State Street.
“The vibes are right, the food is excellent, and it hosts the ever-excellent Humanity Hour,” said Belfield.
If you are looking for a family-owned business, consider checking out Brother’s Bistro on North Union Street in Olean.
“Amazing food, great family business,” said Matt King, professor of English.
Halley Glover, a sophomore marketing major, says that she enjoys the food and prices at Red’s & Trudy’s, on Portville-Ceres Road in Portville.
“The prices are fairly cheap, and they have great food,” said Glover.
