On April 2 St. Bonaventure University Vice President and Director of Athletics Bob Beretta announced the appointment of Mick Giordano as the eighth head coach in the history of the Bonnies men’s soccer program.

Giordano spent the last five seasons as head coach of the UNC Asheville men’s soccer program. Last year, Giordano led the Bulldogs to a record of 7-4-4, qualifying for the Big South Conference Championships in back-to-back years for the first time in UNC Asheville’s Division I era.

“My family and I are elated to join the Bona family,” Giordano said. It was evident from day one how special a place St. Bonaventure is due to the incredible faculty, staff and students. As well, the excitement for St. Bonaventure Men’s Soccer is invigorating.”

Last year, the Bonnies narrowly missed an Atlantic 10 playoff spot, finishing with a 6-8-3 record. Giordano’s history of fostering a winning culture is expected to help elevate the Bonnies to the next level.

“I am incredibly excited to begin this new journey with our student-athletes, support staff and alumni as we strive to be the best version of ourselves daily” said Giordano.

Giordano’s teams have produced 15 Big South All-Conference accolades, five Big South All-Rookie Team honors, two Big South Goalkeeper of the Year awards and a United Soccer Coaches All-Region honor.

A new coach brings a new buzz within the locker room, said captain and graduate student Gabriel Addo.

“The team is excited to work with the new manager,” said Addo. “I think sometimes change is good. We have a good group of guys here who are driven towards the same goal. Even though the coach has changed doesn’t mean the goal has. We are going to keep striving to push this program.”

As Bonaventure prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Giordano as he works to establish his vision for the future of the program.
